Parking Lot Project
Summary of Project
In August of 2008, Friends School received a grant from the Capital Region Watershed District (CRWD) to help FSM install a pervious paver system in the school’s parking lot. We completed the project as part of our overall Capital Campaign project that included a site master plan and extensive modeling of our landscaping system. As part of the project we installed four rain gardens to capture rainwater runoff from the school’s roof and installed the 1,008 sq/ft pervious paver system in our parking lot.
To install the paver system, we contracted with Aloha Landscaping. Aloha removed the blacktop surface of four parking lot spaces, built the required substrate for that area, and surfaced the area using pervious pavers. We also installed a grate system in the parking lot to trap sediment from the parking lot surface and cars. The grate system feeds into dry well which is approximately 4x4x4 feet deep and filled with pervious aggregate material.
