ST. PAUL, MN. – (November 6, 2006) Friends
School of Minnesota is pleased to announce the school committee
has appointed
Lili Herbert as the new Head of School. Lili started her
journey at Friends School as a parent in 1992, and served
on the board and as chair of the board in 1994. She was FSM’s
conflict resolution program director from 1995-1999, writing
articles and presenting at conferences on the subject.
A gifted
and dynamic classroom teacher and advisor, Lili was instrumental
in creating Friends School’s Middle
School. After a national search for a middle school director
in 2003, Lili emerged as the clear leader. Lili has served
as interim admissions director, and most recently as interim
head of school, giving her insight into the administrative
workings of FSM.
Lili’s experience in Quaker education
includes her participation in the Friends Council on Education’s
Institute for Engaging Leadership in Friends Schools. This
selective program prepares high potential candidates for
leadership roles in Quaker schools.
In addition, Lili has
been actively involved in state and regional education
associations, including a past board member
of ISACS (Independent Schools Association of the Central
States) and the chair of the MAIS (Minnesota Association
of Independent Schools) teacher services committee, Lili
has her BA from Boston University and a Masters in Education
from the University of Minnesota.
“I am thrilled to be appointed Head of School, to
bring my skills and experience to this excellent program
that promises
very strong academics and develops good people who care about
our world and each other,” is what Lili has to say
about her new position.
Lili and husband Tim Sheldon have
a 6th grade daughter at the school, as well as a daughter
who is a Friends School
graduate. They live in a block from Friends
School in the Hamline Midway neighborhood.
