Training in the FSM Program

Friends School of Minnesota's training and support services have been designed to address the needs of the entire school community in implementing a strong conflict resolution program. Drawing on our experience with the program at Friends School and on our outreach work with diverse schools, we have identified factors crucial to success in starting and maintaining a conflict resolution program. By including representatives of the entire school community in the process, by providing useful and focused training, and by providing ongoing support, Friends School can help to build conflict resolution into the culture of your school or organization.

Past participants say. . .

This was a great presentation of a good program. I like the simplicity of the process and that it can be used for very small children.

Very practical information. Easy to understand and hopefully to put into practice!

After the workshop I feel confident that I will be able to apply it to my teaching and present and propose to our school.

I will change the way I look at classroom behavior, management, and conflicts.

Friends School is a great model to follow!

Information sharing--Friends School program is described and your school's needs are discussed.

Consulting--Staff from Friends School meet with a small group including the principal, teachers, social worker, parents and other staff. We discuss your school's needs and outline a strategy for integrating conflict resolution into the school. Major goals include making time and building support for the program. We can also work with your school to assess program effectiveness.

Training--Friends School's training team conducts half or full day training sessions. The Friends School conflict resolution model is introduced and participants gain practice in the process through experiential methods. We help each school adapt the program to meet its specific needs. Training includes a copy of the I-to-I DVD and training manuals. Options include: introduction/materials for classroom work on conflict resolution.

On-going support and technical assistance--Friends School conflict resolution staff meet regularly with team leaders in schools to address needs. Team leaders visit Friends School and observe program in operation. Friends School staff available for support by telephone or email.

The Friends School program is perfect...because our children need some really simple cut and dry ways of how to deal with problems.
