After School Music Courses

♪ Beginning Recorder

Introduction to the fundamentals of the recorder. Students investigate the beginnings of recorder technique while developing rudiments of basic musicianship such as rhythm, pitch, and listening. Grades 1- 3. (Limit 8)

♪ Intermediate Recorder

Further exploration of recorder technique and performance practice. This course expands on the knowledge and skills of playing technique and explores additional elements of music construction and expression. Grades 4-5. (Limit 8)

♪ Advanced Recorder

Increases the variety and depth of the student’s interest in, knowledge of, and involvement in recorder playing and music. This course continues the development of dexterity and facility in recorder technique while building music literacy and creativity. Grades 6-8. (Limit 10)

♪ Junior Vocal Ensemble (Eagle Singers)

Experience the joy of choral ensemble singing. Student exercise their voices and sing in a fun and supportive community environment. This class develops music reading skills and knowledge of music history through a variety of repertoire and musical styles including classical, pop, folk, and Broadway. All voices and levels of experience are welcome. Grades 3-8.

♪ Senior Vocal Ensemble (Falcon Choir)

Experience the joy of choral ensemble singing. Student exercise their voices and sing in a fun and supportive community environment. This class develops music reading skills and knowledge of music history through a variety of repertoire and musical styles including classical, pop, folk, and Broadway. Grades 5-8.

♪ Percussion 

The beginning, intermediate, and advanced drumming classes will focus on proper hand position and strokes as well as keeping a steady rhythm, listening to others, and learning some basic Middle Eastern and West African rhythms. We will also do exercises to stretch the students’ rhythmic abilities, including odd metered music for more advanced students and multi-part rhythms for all sections.  Full percussion course description (PDF)

♪ Beginning Percussion 

This class offers an introduction to rhythm studies, hand drums, and ensemble performance.  Grades 1-4. (Limit 8)

 ♪ Intermediate Percussion

This class offers percussion studies in traditional African, Latin, and Middle Eastern rhythms.  Open to students in grades 4-5 who have completed Beginning Percussion. (Limit 8)

 ♪ Advanced Percussion

This class offers percussion studies in hand drums, xylophone, and combining melody with rhythm.  Open to students who have completed Intermediate Percussion.  (Limit 10)

 ♪ Piano Lessons 

Private piano lessons are offered before and after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Private lessons are 30 minutes long and are open to students in all grades.

 ♪ Voice Lessons

Exploration and development of the solo singing voice.  Students will be introduced to the basics of voice study--posture, breathing, diction, tone production, and musical expression--through individual lessons.  Study includes repertoire from a variety of musical genres including classical, folk, pop, and world music. Private lessons are 30 minutes long and are open to students in all grades.
