Veronica has taught at FSM since 2005. She has a B.A. in English from the University of Houston and is enrolled in the Master’s in the Art of Teaching program in K-12 world languages and cultures with licensure in Spanish at the University of St. Thomas.  She is currently taking part in SPARC (Spirited Practice and Renewed Courage), a two- year program in Quaker pedagogy and practice through the Friends Council on Education.

In the past, Veronica worked as a restaurant manager in West Berlin, West Germany, and as a scuba instructor and cave guide in Akumal, Mexico.  Veronica is also an FSM parent. She loves running; softball; Iyengar yoga; poetry in English, German, and Spanish; and finding new recipes for pears.

“¡Everyone can learn Spanish! My job is to find the best vehicles—whether through cultural affinity, music, art, or grammar. It is important to meet students at their levels and to build strong community relationships to give students confidence to speak Spanish. The best part of teaching Spanish is hearing the students integrate their language learning—making connections to English, Hebrew, French… and also to their lives.”
