Melissa has a B.A. in Teaching Social Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  She believes every child can learn.  It is our job as educators to provide a variety of experiences to nurture our students, not only academically, but socially and as individuals.

Before coming to FSM in 2009, Melissa helped with start-up and taught middle school Social Studies for a charter school in the Twin Cities, along with serving as a curriculum coordinator and school board member.  Previously, Melissa was a lead teacher at Sylvan Learning Center, worked for the Cargill Scholars Program in the Minneapolis Public Schools, and worked with adults with disabilities in a day program.

Outside of school Melissa enjoys gardening, arts/crafts, being outside, learning new things and spending time with family and friends.

“There is nothing more satisfying than having a student appreciate what you taught them. But the most important thing to remember about teaching is to have a sense of humor.”
